Top 5 Ways to Slow Down and Enjoy Every Moment
The world is more connected than ever. And being more connected often means being busier. It’s hard to slow down and enjoy life where you can work effectively any time and from any place. But, as difficult as it can get, it is really important to slow down and actually enjoy life. Here are the five best ways for you to slow down and enjoy life every day.
Focus on people instead of work
Create a space within your workspace for the people in your life. Add photos of friends and family to your office decor. Decorate your space with something unique like a fancy pen holder, use some pretty stationery to remind you to write a letter to someone you care about. Taking a few moments to think about the ones you love reduces stress and adds perspective about what’s most important in life.
Turn off your phone
So much of our work and communication take place on our phones nowadays. While this is inescapable in some ways, you can disconnect at home to find some peace each day. Create “Phone-Free” schedule for yourself. Write your thoughts and reflections down on paper with nice fancy pens. Taking a little time every day to disconnect really helps to appreciate the simple pleasures of life.
Meditate
Meditation and deep breathing exercises are a great way to relax and just enjoy being alive. Don’t let the idea of meditation intimidate you. Meditation doesn’t have to mean sitting for hours in silence! Simply closing your eyes, taking deep breaths, and counting to ten can slow your heart rate, calm a racing mind, and ease the stress of the day.
Go outside!
Although socializing in person is a bit more difficult these days, don’t let public gathering restrictions make you feel you can never go outside! Even stepping outside into your own backyard for a few minutes to feel the sun on your face can improve your health. Exposure to the sun stimulates Vitamin D production which is good for mood and energy levels. This can reduce stress, open you to relaxation, and get you to smell the plants in your garden.
Practice gratitude
Simply taking a moment every day to write down the things in life you are grateful for is a powerful exercise. By thinking about gratitude, you enable yourself to slow down and truly appreciate those things that mean the most to you. The more you practice daily gratitude until it becomes a habit, the more you will be able to slow down and recall those peaceful feelings at stressful times.
Life gets busy and stressful. But if we aren’t mindful of taking time to appreciate life’s simple pleasures, it can all pass us by in the blink of an eye. Consciously making time for gratitude and peace makes stress more manageable and the special moments in life even sweeter. When you take the time to slow down and enjoy life, you’ll find there is more life to enjoy altogether.
